To drive the horror of the situation, the film focuses on the horror of watching your friends killed by a psychotic madmen in horrifying ways. Each scene tops itself with an unexpected over the top violating moments. There were many hours spent in the early hours figuring out how to top each moment in the film to its bloody climax. You will not guess what taboo is broken next as the film progresses. This is what I guess is its charm.
I enjoyed the film even though there were some cuts and transitions that took me out of the action. I also thought the casting was good with the catholic school girls but the Psycho Gang member had seen scarface too many times. I wish it was not such a stereotype of a gang member. I thought Antonio Royuela was a great actor and in fact carried the film along with Kimmy's revenge state performance. Cydne Schulte came alive once she went into "Carrie-mode". I personally loved the bad girl Susan (Jesselynn Desmond) as she drives the action in the first part of the film. I only wish her monologue about being from St. Francis High School was a bit longer.
It has the charm of many of the Andy Warhol films of the 1970s. What made "Filth" so charming was the monologues allowing you to get inside the characters personal psychosis despite the horror going on around them. The characters are rich enough you leave wanting a little more.
Should you get this film. Yes. If only for the reason
it was shot at Hahn Park the site of the 1920s Olympics and second
to watch catholic school girls really get into trouble.
Here is a pivotal scene in the film.
This is a hard to find film because of its unrated nature but
you can find it here
